Emotional Availability

Manuals for EA work are available only with training and the system should be used only with training.  Although we all have some sense of what “emotional availability” is, the EA Scales, which includes 4 adult dimensions (sensitivity, structuring, nonintrusiveness, and nonhostility) and 2 child dimensions (responsiveness to the adult and involvement of the adult) have been developed, defined, and calibrated, as well as re-calibrated for each edition (we are now in the 4th edition), and to benefit from the clear evidence-base for this system, it is important to be aligned with this calibration, rather than describing something else.  Only professionals are trained in this system, but the book The Universal Language of Love:  Assessing Relationships Through the Science of Emotional Availability describes how anyone can use the system for understanding and assessing their personal relationships.

For the EA-related manuals, check each type of training program for the appropriate manual.
